Oh Gwang-rok, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council, announced on the 10th that he held the '5·18 Spirit Seo-gu Policy Linkage Meeting' in the council's small conference room.
The meeting was organized to practically promote the ordinance 'Ordinance on the Activation and Support of Democratic Citizenship Education,' which was enacted through a representative proposal by Councilor Oh.
Yu Yong-sang, director of Gwangsan-gu Suwan Mirae Children's Hospital who served as medical staff during the 5·18 period, along with officials from the Culture and Economy Bureau and the Autonomous Administration Bureau, attended to discuss public-private cooperation and practical measures for linking the May spirit with Seo-gu policies.
The attendees proposed ▲ establishing a new course within the 'The Largest University in the World' ▲ promoting Seo-gu Academy lectures ▲ and providing visiting education programs in each neighborhood to enhance awareness of the history of the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement.
Councilor Oh stated, “I hope that measures will be prepared and implemented to not only involve the administration but also enhance the role of the private sector so that the May spirit can be linked to Seo-gu policies.”
