Optrontec announced on the 10th that it has started mass production of 8-inch glass wafers for MLA smart headlamps used in Genesis vehicles.
The 8-inch glass wafers for MLA (Micro Lens Array) are scheduled to be supplied to SL, a company that provides headlamps to Hyundai Motor Company. Starting with the Genesis GV80 and GV80 Coupe released this year, they will be adopted across all Genesis models.
Daehyun Jung, who was appointed as the President of Business Division last year, integrated and relocated global production bases and opened an optical technology center in the Daedeok Research Complex to incubate next-generation new businesses. After 18 months of effort, the company succeeded in mass-producing glass wafers for next-generation automotive smart headlamps.
President Jung stated, “Through bold innovative management in the automotive electronics parts business, we have created an opportunity for a new leap forward. We have decisively streamlined the small-volume, multi-product business focused on the domestic market and concentrated our capabilities on the global automotive electronics parts business. Starting from April this year, we began initial supply of high-performance 5-megapixel optical filters for automotive cameras to the North American automotive electronics market, with plans to supply additional second clients in September and third clients in December.”
Additionally, Optrontec is actively participating in the development of next-generation 8-inch reflective filters. The company has decided to expand its single-channel logo lamp business, which has been supplied to Volkswagen?the world’s number one automotive market share holder?since 2019, into the next-generation APU (Automotive Projection Unit) business. It plans to accelerate the mass production development of next-generation 4-channel APUs and continue transformation and innovation as a next-generation growth business.
Jiyoon Lim, CEO of Optrontec, stated, “By combining Optrontec’s unique optical filter vacuum deposition technology and know-how accumulated over more than 20 years with semiconductor process technology, we will strengthen the new-concept next-generation optical components business and lead the expansion of the global market based on automotive electronics parts optimized for autonomous and electric vehicles.”
