Google Cloud Supports NCSoft AI Language Model Development Using TPU

Google Cloud supports NCSoft's artificial intelligence (AI) training.

On the 10th, Google Cloud announced that NCSoft developed the ‘VARCO LLM’ based on Google Cloud TPU (Tensor Processing Unit, an AI semiconductor chip) and established a training environment.

In August, NCSoft became the first domestic game company to unveil its self-developed AI language model, ‘VARCO LLM.’ It is being utilized in the development of various natural language processing (NLP)-based AI services such as Q&A, chatbots, summarization, and information extraction.

To develop VARCO LLM, NCSoft adopted Cloud TPU and has been conducting AI model training for the past year. Cloud TPU is Google Cloud’s custom machine learning accelerator (ASIC) optimized for large-scale AI model training and inference, supporting various use cases including chatbots, code generation, and media content creation. Cloud TPU delivers nearly twice the performance per dollar compared to GPUs.

Based on ‘VARCO LLM,’ NCSoft will actively engage in various AI research and businesses including game content development, digital humans, generative AI platforms, and conversational language models. Through generative AI technology, they are developing NPC models capable of real-time interaction and natural communication with players. Additionally, NCSoft plans to introduce domain-specific models combining expert knowledge in collaboration with partners from diverse fields such as education, finance, and bio.
