Increase in Express Buses Connecting Yongin and Seoul During Commute Hours

Yongin City to Operate 3 Buses on Route 5005 Between Gangnam University Station and Seoul Station from the 13th
By the End of This Month, 6 Buses Will Also Be Assigned to Myeongji University-Gangnam Station and Giheung Station-Sinnonhyeon Station Routes

The number of express buses commuting between Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province and downtown Seoul and the Gangnam area during rush hours will increase.

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 10th that starting from the 13th, three charter buses will operate on route '5005', which departs from Everline Light Rail Gangnam University Station and connects to Seoul Station during morning rush hours.

This charter bus operation is a measure considering citizens who find it difficult to use express buses due to full seating at Gangnam University Station or transfer stations such as Giheung Station on the Suin-Bundang Line and Everline, following the ban on standing passengers on express buses. The city explained that it reached the decision for intermediate dispatch through consultations with the Metropolitan City Transportation Committee and others.

The charter buses will be deployed at 6:40 AM, 7:00 AM, and 7:20 AM. The city plans to monitor boarding conditions and adjust the times if necessary to improve operational efficiency.

The city also plans to expand bus routes connecting major areas of Yongin to the Gangnam area in Seoul.

First, within this year, two express buses on route 5003, which runs between Giheung Station and Sinnonhyeon Station, will be replaced with eco-friendly double-decker electric buses. Although double-decker buses have higher seating capacity and operational efficiency, they are prone to frequent breakdowns, so the city intends to replace them with new models. Next year, the city plans to secure as many double-decker buses as possible and deploy them on express bus routes heavily used by citizens.

Additionally, by the end of this month, two charter buses will be added to route 5001 between Myongji University and Gangnam Station, and four to route 5003 during rush hours. By the end of the year, a metropolitan call bus (M-DRT) running between Yurim-dong and Yangjae Station will also be launched.

In the first half of next year, the city plans to increase the number of regular buses by one each on route 5005 and route 5000, which runs between Everline Chodang Station and Seoul Station.

Lee Sang-il, mayor of Yongin City, said, "We will continue efforts to secure more express bus supply to alleviate transportation inconveniences for citizens."
