Jang Seong-gan and Lee Ju-yeon from the Department of Earth Environmental System Science at the Graduate School of Pukyong National University each received the Best Paper Award from the Korean Geotechnical Society.
Affiliated with Professor Yang Min-jun's laboratory at Pukyong National University, they presented papers at the 2023 Korean Geotechnical Society Fall Conference held recently at the Hidden Bay Hotel in Yeosu, making it onto the list of Best Paper Award recipients. A total of 11 papers were selected for the list.
Jang Seong-gan received the award as the first author for the paper titled "Evaluation of TCE Contamination Persistence Contribution Using Linear Source Reduction Modeling," and Lee Ju-yeon was awarded as the first author for "Evaluation of Alcohol Adsorption-Desorption Mechanism in Polysulfone Carriers for Groundwater Flux Measurement."
In his award-winning paper, Jang developed a linear source reduction analytical solution (Ritter’s solution), validated its feasibility, and analyzed modeling results to evaluate the contribution of TCE (trichloroethylene) contamination persistence, earning high praise for his research.
Lee presented experimental results on alcohol adsorption characteristics at various concentrations using four types of polysulfone (a high-performance thermoplastic resin) carriers, gaining recognition for her research achievements.
The Korean Geotechnical Society conference featured a total of five general and special sessions focused on the role of geotechnical engineering in landslide and slope disaster cases during natural disasters, where academic presentations and research exchanges were conducted.
