The vote was conducted via an automated response system (ARS), with 547 out of 821 registered national committee members participating. The results showed 522 in favor and 25 against, resulting in a 95.42% approval rate.

Lee Heon-seung, chairman of the People Power Party's national committee, said, "We will strive to achieve victory in next year's general election and realize integrated politics."

The leadership of the People Power Party had earlier proposed to Cho Jeong-hoon, leader of the Party for Change and Hope, to "create a coalition encompassing conservatives and centrists." On September 21, Cho officially announced the push for a merger with the People Power Party, stating, "I will join the party and play the role of a catfish."

The Party for Change and Hope held an extraordinary party convention on the 7th and passed the merger agenda with the People Power Party. Since Cho is the only incumbent lawmaker of the Party for Change and Hope, the merger will increase the People Power Party's seats to 112.

Earlier, Kim Ki-hyun, leader of the People Power Party, said in his opening remarks at the national committee meeting, "Cho, an international economic expert who values free market economics, shares the philosophy our party pursues and aligns closely with the policy direction of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration."

He added, "Our top priority is for our party to be reborn as a party trusted by the centrist voters," and said, "While doing so, we will also respect the roots and regional opinions of our long-time comrades who have loved and protected the party through hardships."

Yoon Jae-ok, floor leader of the People Power Party, said, "Ahead of next year's general election, it is time to tell the people the direction we will take and show our commitment through actions," adding, "Today's merger is a practice of the People Power Party listening to and embracing more voices of the people and moving closer to the public."
