"Important Korean Market"... SC Group Holds Board Meeting at SC First Bank Headquarters

Town Hall Meeting with Global Employees and Executives Held

The key board members of Standard Chartered (SC) Group held a group board meeting at the SC First Bank headquarters in Jongno-gu, Seoul. This was because they recognized South Korea as a strategic core market within the group and as a hub for Asia.

SC First Bank announced on the 9th that SC Group board members, including Jose Vinals, Chairman of the SC Group Board, and Bill Winters, Chairman of SC Group, held the SC Group board meeting at the SC First Bank headquarters in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 8th and 9th.

The SC Group board members and executives regularly hold board meetings alternately in major markets worldwide where they operate and communicate with local employees. This is the second time the SC Group board meeting has been held in South Korea since 2018. South Korea is regarded as a strategic core market within SC Group and plays an important role as a key hub in Asia, serving as a gateway for numerous trades and investments.

In addition to attending the SC Group board meeting, the SC Group board members and executives carried out schedules including ▲visiting key clients ▲participating in the Diversity and Inclusion Committee ▲attending the ‘Women in Entrepreneurship’ workshop, a global growth forum for female young entrepreneurs ▲meeting with the next generation of SC First Bank leaders.

Moreover, the day before, the ‘SC Group Global Townhall,’ a hybrid online and offline event where SC Group employees worldwide participate twice a year to share the group’s management status and strategic priorities, was held at the auditorium of SC First Bank’s headquarters. This was the first time the SC Group Global Townhall was held in South Korea.

Bill Winters, Chairman of SC Group, said, "South Korea is a very important strategic market, ranking fifth in revenue contribution, accounting for 7% of SC Group’s total revenue. SC Group recognizes that the Korean market continues to evolve, encourages innovation, and makes strategic investments. This is not just a promise but a demonstration of SC Group’s vision to ‘promote the development and prosperity of the regions we operate in.’"

Park Jong-bok, President of SC First Bank, said in his welcoming speech at the Global Townhall, "SC First Bank is the only international bank operating both corporate and retail banking in South Korea, and we will continue to create differentiated results by combining a local brand with an international network."
