Designation of Base Medical Institutions in Underserved Areas to Address Obstetric Blind Spots
A maternity obstetrics clinic will reopen in Sacheon, Gyeongnam, for the first time in 12 years.
According to Sacheon City on the 9th, Cheonga Women’s Clinic located in Beolly-dong, Sacheon City, will officially operate its maternity obstetrics clinic starting from the 13th.
The maternity obstetrics clinic to be operated this time is designated as a base medical institution in medically underserved areas by Gyeongnam Province to resolve delivery blind spots, with budgets provided by Gyeongnam Province and Sacheon City.
Gyeongnam Province designated Cheonga Obstetrics Clinic, which has experience operating maternity obstetrics clinics, as a base medical institution in medically underserved areas, considering the demand not only in the eastern area of Sacheon City but also in nearby medically underserved areas such as Namhae County and Hadong County.
Through remodeling, the second floor of Cheonga Women’s Clinic has been equipped with a labor room, delivery room, operating room, and recovery room, and the third floor includes eight single inpatient rooms as well as a family delivery room where families can experience childbirth together in a warm and comfortable atmosphere.
In addition, with the latest medical equipment, two doctors, three nurses, and five nursing assistants are permanently assigned to operate a 24-hour delivery operating room, creating a safe delivery environment.
In particular, memorandums of understanding (MOUs) have been signed with higher-level medical institutions such as Gyeongsang National University Hospital and Samcheonpo Jeil Hospital, and a 24-hour communication network with 119 emergency services is established in case of emergencies.
Although 400 to 500 newborns are born annually in the Sacheon area, it is the only region among the eight cities in Gyeongsangnam-do without a maternity obstetrics clinic.
As a result, pregnant women in Sacheon have experienced the inconvenience of having to use obstetrics clinics outside the city, about an hour away (based on the eastern area), for childbirth.
With the operation of the maternity obstetrics clinic at Cheonga Women’s Clinic this time, the city expects that citizens’ inconveniences will be significantly improved and that the sound of newborn babies’ cries will be heard for the first time in 12 years.
Mayor Park Dongsik said, “This is the result of the dedicated efforts of the staff to expand medical infrastructure for safe pregnancy and childbirth,” and added, “We will also operate various maternal health promotion programs linked with the public health center’s public health medical service projects.”
