Silla University Department of Architecture Wins Grand Prize and Other Awards at the Korea Architecture Culture Awards

Students from the Department of Architecture at Silla University received the Grand Prize and Excellence Award at the ‘2023 Korea Architecture Culture Awards’ hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The Korea Architecture Culture Awards, hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, is an annual event in the field of architecture that began with its first edition in 1992. The competition aims to discover and award outstanding buildings, architectural designs, and architecture-related works to promote the development of architectural culture and inspire creativity among architecture professionals.

The ‘2023 Korea Architecture Culture Awards’ were held in two categories: the building category and the student design competition category. Students from Silla University’s Department of Architecture participated in the student design competition category.

Students Dongbin Bin and Jaemin Kim received the Grand Prize, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award, for their work titled ‘U.M.C Urban Mobility Core,’ while students Taeho Kwon and Kyuhwa Jung received the Excellence Award, the President of the Korea Institute of Registered Architects Award, for their work titled ‘SAFEZONE.’

The Grand Prize-winning work, ‘U.M.C Urban Mobility Core,’ which proposed a method to control mobility systems within a megacity, was highly praised for its idea of introducing the hyperloop as a future transportation means and minimizing imbalance between megacities.

I am grateful that the students’ high-level thinking and sensibility have been reflected in the competition results, and I will work harder to help them fully demonstrate their abilities.”
