President Yoon Suk-yeol visited Daegu on the 7th and stated, "Let us eradicate corruption and uphold the rule of law to create an honest and healthy society," adding, "I believe the campaign to eradicate fake news will firmly protect our human rights and democratic politics." After his recent tours to Saudi Arabia and Qatar last month, President Yoon has been visiting various sites daily, this time focusing on restoring morality based on the establishment of law and order.

On the morning of the same day, President Yoon attended the '2023 National Members' Convention of the Barugesalgi Movement' held at EXCO in Daegu, encouraging the nationwide members of the Barugesalgi Movement. This is the second time a sitting president has attended the Barugesalgi Movement event since former President Kim Dae-jung in 1999, with the movement having been established in 1989.

At the event, President Yoon praised the Barugesalgi Movement, saying, "The movement has achieved a warm society and national unity centered on the three core spirits of truth, order, and harmony," and added, "It has fulfilled its role in creating an honest, coexisting society and a healthy nation." He also acknowledged their hard work in disaster sites, stating, "They have shed sweat even at flood, landslide, and wildfire sites," and encouraged support efforts for the earthquake victims in T?rkiye and Syria.

He particularly emphasized, "South Korea has achieved remarkable growth," and urged, "Let us eradicate corruption and uphold the rule of law to build an honest and healthy society." He continued, "The international community is paying attention to our Republic of Korea," and reiterated to the members, "The Barugesalgi Movement is a campaign to improve quality of life and reform public consciousness, creating a righteous society by eradicating lies and corruption. It is a morality restoration movement that practices the spirit of love for family, neighbors, and country."

He also delivered a message to eradicate 'fake news.' President Yoon stated, "I understand that the Barugesalgi Movement is currently taking the lead in eradicating fake news," and added, "I believe the campaign to eradicate fake news will firmly protect our human rights and democratic politics."

The Presidential Office attaches great significance to President Yoon's continuous on-site activities. This was the first time President Yoon personally attended the event; last year, he sent a message through a reading, promising, "I ask you to unite in harmony and cohesion within local communities, and the government will actively support your activities." However, this time, he directly visited the site to strengthen efforts in building a righteous society.

The day before, President Yoon visited Dongtan Station in Hwaseong City, Gyeonggi Province, to inspect the GTX-A line site scheduled to open in March next year. At the site, President Yoon promised to enhance the convenience of public transportation for citizens and mentioned the government's policy direction of 'stabilizing housing prices through dispersing housing demand.'

He has also been delivering messages daily to support stable economic activities for ordinary citizens. Regarding the recent announcement by financial authorities on the 'temporary full ban on short selling,' the Presidential Office conveyed President Yoon's determination, stating, "Illegal short selling and market manipulation using short selling will be eradicated." Earlier this month, he presided over an emergency economic and livelihood meeting on-site, warning against monopolistic behaviors by Kakao and banks.

Regarding the controversy over the reduction of the research and development (R&D) budget during the government budget formulation process, President Yoon directly addressed the issue, saying, "We will boldly invest in truly necessary fields and significantly increase the R&D budget during my term." Although the R&D budget was reduced for the first time this year, the adjustment was made to ensure funds are actually invested in R&D rather than serving as subsidies, with plans to increase the budget in the future.

President Yoon's actions appear to be reflected in the national approval ratings. Following a public opinion poll last weekend showing his approval rating nearing 40%, another survey released the day before indicated a two-week consecutive rise. Both surveys cited his on-site activities and the National Assembly policy speech as reasons for the increase in approval ratings.
