Kim Gilsu (36), who was detained at Seoul Detention Center on charges of special assault and escaped while receiving hospital treatment, was apprehended on the afternoon of the third day of his escape, the 6th.
According to the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency, the police arrested Kim at 9:24 p.m. that day near a public phone booth in Ganeung-dong, Uijeongbu-si, Gyeonggi Province. Kim was caught after contacting his girlfriend, Ms. A, via the public phone.
Ms. A was the first person Kim visited after his escape on the 4th, and at that time, she even paid 100,000 won for Kim’s taxi fare.
The police, who booked Ms. A on charges of aiding a criminal, anticipated that Kim would contact her again and stayed with her. Meanwhile, Kim called for help from the public phone using Ms. A’s cellphone, and the police traced the call’s origin number, dispatching detectives from the violent crimes unit to the public phone booth area, where they arrested Kim.
At the time of arrest, Kim was reportedly wearing the same black-colored clothes he had on when last spotted on the 4th. The police plan to transfer Kim to Anyang Dongan Police Station to investigate the exact details of his escape route and other circumstances before handing him over to Seoul Detention Center.
On the morning of the 4th, around 6:20 a.m., Kim escaped by changing clothes and taking a taxi after briefly removing his protective gear under the pretext of using the restroom while receiving treatment at Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital in Anyang-si, Gyeonggi Province.
Afterward, Kim got off at Uijeongbu Station in Uijeongbu-si, wandered around the northern Gyeonggi area, entered Seoul, and used the subway at Nowon Station to move to Ttukseom Resort Station at 6:30 p.m. on the same day. He was last seen at the Express Bus Terminal at 9 p.m. that day, after which his whereabouts were unknown.
