"Democrats in Opposition Must Work with 'Reformist Zeal'"
Jo Seung-hyun's Unique 'ChatGPT' Book Launch on the 5th
Opposition Figures Including Chu Mi-ae and Cho Hee-yeon All Attend
Lee Hae-chan, Senior Advisor of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 5th regarding next year's general election, "How many seats the Democratic Party wins, and whether it wins far more than the majority (half), is a very important election," adding, "The fate of the country depends on the outcome of this crucial election."
On the same day, Lee attended the book launch event for Cho Seung-hyun, Senior Vice Chairman of the Democratic Party's National Communication Committee, titled 'Cho Seung-hyun Asks and ChatGPT Answers! The Future of Korean Politics,' held at Homeplus in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, where he made these remarks.
Lee Hae-chan, Senior Advisor of the Democratic Party of Korea, is delivering a congratulatory speech at the publication celebration of "Jo Seung-hyun Asks and ChatGPT Answers! The Future of Korean Politics," held on the afternoon of the 5th at Homeplus in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, hosted by Jo Seung-hyun, Senior Vice Chairman of the Democratic Party's National Communication Committee.
In his congratulatory speech, Lee emphasized, "Even though we had 180 seats in the last (21st general) election and still couldn't accomplish much, some might say, 'What can you do even if you get far more than the majority in next year's election?' But back then, when we were the ruling party, expertise was crucial, and now that we are the opposition, it is very important to have people with reformist zeal working."
He added, "(Politics) requires having good people around you to achieve good results," and indirectly criticized the Yoon Seok-yeol administration by saying, "The reason the country has come to this state recently is not only because I am not satisfied, but also because the people around me are unsatisfactory, resulting in a mixed mess."
Regarding Cho Seung-hyun, who published the book, Lee introduced him as "a communication expert who has been in charge of public relations throughout the leaderships of Han Myeong-sook, Lee Hae-chan, Chung Sye-kyun, Moon Jae-in, and Lee Jae-myung," and explained, "(I) have retired from politics and live comfortably. I rarely give congratulatory speeches these days, but I have been indebted to Vice Chairman Cho for 10 years, so I attended."
Cho Seung-hyun, preparing to run in next year's Geumcheon-gu general election, said, "I was curious about how ChatGPT thinks about politics, but I also thought it was time to consider how politics should deal with ChatGPT, which led me to write this book." Cho entered Yeouido politics in 2011. He has assisted Democratic Party leaders Han Myeong-sook, Choo Mi-ae, Lee Hae-chan, and Lee Jae-myung, and served as an administrative officer at the Blue House during the Democratic Party government.
The book launch event was attended by Senior Advisor Lee, Seoul Mayor of Education Cho Hee-yeon, former Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae, former Minister of SMEs and Startups Hong Jong-hak, among others, who gave congratulatory speeches.
In her congratulatory speech, former Minister Choo criticized the ruling party's recent move to incorporate Gimpo into Seoul as part of the 'Mega City' initiative, saying, "One of the Democratic Party's shortcomings is that 'decisions are slow and hard for the public to understand,' whereas the People Power Party pushes forward ignorantly and blindly." She questioned, "Will Gimpo become happier by being absorbed into Seoul?" and added, "Some jokingly say it currently takes '2 hours' from Seoul to Gimpo, but if it becomes 'Seoul's Gimpo District,' it will take 'only 2 hours.' It's a shell game."
Former Minister Choo emphasized that unlike the People Power Party, the Democratic Party deliberates more on each policy and praised Vice Chairman Cho by saying, "He conveys these messages to the public very easily." She recalled, "The most enjoyable times were when I worked and debated with Vice Chairman Cho," and expressed hope that "the day will come when the Democratic Party gives hope to the people, explains policies clearly, gathers abundant talent, and rebuilds a prosperous Korea. I hope Cho Seung-hyun will be part of that."
Seoul Mayor of Education Cho Hee-yeon also said, "In education, we are thinking about how to creatively nurture children in the ChatGPT era," and added, "Vice Chairman Cho is an expert in this field and I often seek his advice." He stated, "In the ChatGPT era, how to develop the nation's capabilities is both an educational and national task," and concluded, "I will study hard through Vice Chairman Cho's book."
