On the 4th, Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, attended the '1st Nowon Car-Free Street Festival' held in the area around Nowon Station Nohae-ro in Seoul (a 555m section from Lotte Department Store to Full Gospel Church).
The district designated the area around Nowon Station Nohae-ro (555m section from Lotte Department Store to Full Gospel Church) as a 'car-free street' on the day of the event and prepared the 'Car-Free Street Festival' aiming to encourage resident participation and raise awareness for achieving carbon neutrality.
The event consisted of six zones including the main stage, ▲Carbon Neutrality Theme Zone ▲Nodaji Market Zone ▲Bicycle Experience Zone ▲Local Green Market Zone ▲Book Rest Zone ▲Lifelong Learning Festival Zone, featuring various experiential activities tailored to each zone's theme such as powerless tree play, flea market for secondhand goods, and making soap bubbles using a bicycle generator.
Meanwhile, on the main stage, starting from 12:30 PM, about 100 residents took the lead in proclaiming a Carbon Neutrality Citizen Declaration pledging to practice carbon neutrality, and to raise awareness of the climate crisis, all participants performed a carbon neutrality practice performance using recycled props.
Additionally, the district calculated the greenhouse gas emissions generated throughout the entire event process and plans to challenge carbon zero by offsetting the emissions for the first time among Seoul's autonomous districts at next year's 'Arbor Day Tree Planting' event.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, said, “The 'Car-Free Street Festival,' planned for the first time this year, is a festival practicing carbon neutrality,” adding, “We have prepared various enjoyable activities, so I hope people come out to the event, join in small actions to save the Earth, and fully heal themselves.”
