Corporate CEOs and Wall Street Bigwigs Head to Miami
Mild Weather and Low Taxes Are Advantages
Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, the world's largest e-commerce company, is leaving Seattle to move to Miami. From CEOs to Wall Street moguls and soccer players, a stream of celebrities are heading to Miami.
On the 2nd (local time), Bezos announced on the social networking service Instagram that he would be moving to Miami, Florida. He explained that he decided to move to be closer to his parents' home as well as the Cape Canaveral site of Blue Origin, the private space exploration company he founded.
Bezos posted a video taken in the Seattle garage where he founded Amazon in 1994, saying, "I have lived in Seattle longer than anywhere else," and "I have many amazing memories here." He added, "The move is exciting but also an emotional decision for me," and "Seattle, you will always be in my heart."
Recently, Bezos purchased a home with seven bedrooms on Indian Creek, an artificial island in Miami. Indian Creek is known as a 'billionaire's bunker' and is a region where ultra-wealthy individuals are actively buying real estate.
Miami, located in Florida with its mild weather and low tax rates, continues to attract billionaires and corporations. Hedge fund giants Ken Griffin, Dan Loeb, and Josh Harris have all purchased luxury homes along Miami's beachfront following the COVID-19 pandemic. Lionel Messi, the world's top soccer player from Argentina, recently transferred to Inter Miami, a Miami-based soccer club, and bought a luxury home. Ivanka Trump, daughter of former President Donald Trump, and her husband Jared Kushner have also rented a home in Indian Creek while staying in Miami.
Citadel, a major U.S. hedge fund, relocated its headquarters from Chicago to Miami last year. Florida's low tax rates and the continuous influx of wealthy individuals, expanding the potential client base, are analyzed as the reasons behind the headquarters move.
Bloomberg News reported, "Miami is emerging as a popular destination for elite businesspeople," and "There is a growing trend of companies and wealthy individuals relocating to the Miami area."
