Osan-si "Improvement of Vehicle Flow through Signal System Enhancement on Nambu-daero"

"Passing Time at Wondongcho Intersection Reduced by Half"

Osan City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 31st that traffic congestion has significantly improved through signal system enhancements in the section from Wondongcho Intersection to KEPCO Intersection on Nambu-daero, which has been experiencing habitual congestion during commuting hours.

Osan-si "Improvement of Vehicle Flow through Signal System Enhancement on Nambu-daero"

Nambu-daero is a major arterial road in Osan City, connecting Hwaseong, Osan, and Pyeongtaek east to west, linked to National Route 1. It has been a site of frequent congestion due to increased traffic volume during commuting hours.

To address the issue, the city analyzed traffic volume around the Wondongcho Intersection, where major congestion occurs, implemented a separated signal system for commuting hours, and extended the signal time from 35 seconds to 49 seconds (an increase of 14 seconds) for the direction from Hyangnam to Osan during the evening rush hour. Additionally, the city adjusted signal coordination with the nearby KEPCO Intersection to improve traffic flow.

The city explained that the signal system improvements resulted in a 34.5% reduction in queue length on Nambu-daero near Wondongcho Intersection during the evening rush hour, and the travel time through the area was reduced to less than half.

Osan City plans to continuously monitor the traffic situation on Nambu-daero and review possibilities for further traffic signal and road structure improvements to alleviate congestion.
