By the End of Next Month, Crackdown on Origin Labeling of Pickled Napa Cabbage: "Protect the Prestige of Premium Haenam Cabbage"
Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, is conducting an origin labeling inspection on cabbage, salt, and other materials at 648 salted cabbage production facilities within the jurisdiction until the end of next month, in preparation for the kimchi-making season.
This inspection is being carried out jointly with the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service to protect the reputation of the "Premium Haenam Cabbage," the largest cabbage production area in the country, and to eradicate the distribution of substandard salted cabbage.
According to the county on the 31st, the inspection will focus on acts such as falsely labeling cabbage from other regions as Haenam cabbage, selling kimchi seasoning together with salted cabbage without business registration, and failing to indicate the origin.
In addition, hygiene management education for salted cabbage producers will be conducted simultaneously, targeting salted cabbage production companies, covering raw material management, hygiene management, work environment management, and worker management.
Companies found violating regulations will be subject to administrative measures such as prosecution and fines according to relevant laws and will be excluded from next year's salted cabbage subsidy program.
Previously, Haenam-gun appointed the heads of the salted cabbage councils in towns and townships as honorary agricultural product monitors to strengthen private monitoring functions, and held a resolution meeting for producers to comply with origin labeling and produce clean and hygienic safe food.
A county official stated, "To maintain the reputation of Haenam cabbage, we plan to conduct focused inspections to prevent cases where cabbage from other regions is disguised as Haenam cabbage," and urged, "To continuously uphold the status of Haenam salted cabbage, we ask producers themselves to strive to produce salted cabbage using Haenam-grown cabbage and to put effort into quality and hygiene management to ensure safe food."
