The Korea Display Industry Association welcomed the inclusion of inorganic light-emitting display in the government's announcement of the '2023 3rd R&D Preliminary Feasibility Study Target Projects.'
On the 31st, the Display Association stated in a press release that the inclusion of the inorganic light-emitting display technology development and ecosystem establishment project in the '2023 3rd R&D Preliminary Feasibility Study Target Projects' is expected to serve as a stepping stone to reclaiming the world's number one position in displays.
The association explained, "The display market considers OLED a more advanced technology than LCD, with Korean companies holding an overwhelming market share. However, competing countries are pressuring Korea not only by pursuing OLED but also through proactive investments in next-generation inorganic light-emitting displays." They added, "While China has 90 inorganic light-emitting display materials, parts, and equipment companies, Korea has only 40, resulting in lower competitiveness."
In this context, the upcoming inorganic light-emitting display preliminary feasibility study project, valued at 950 billion KRW, includes comprehensive support such as securing core technologies from pixel to panel to module, preempting production equipment, supply chain independence, and infrastructure establishment to support companies. The association stated, "It will play a pivotal role in fostering the inorganic light-emitting display industry and building its ecosystem," and added, "The association plans to actively promote multifaceted support for the success of the preliminary feasibility study project and industry development, including inorganic light-emitting display workforce training, standardization foundation projects, and operating consultative bodies for industry-academia-research cooperation."
