From Day to Night, 20 Calls and Texts
Police: "Confirming if the Reported Person is the Mother of Jeoncheongjo"
A report was received that a person presumed to be the mother of Jeon Chang-jo, who was previously engaged to and then broke up with former national fencing representative Nam Hyun-hee, stalked Nam.
On the 31st, the Seongnam Jungwon Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced that they are investigating a report that a person presumed to be Jeon's mother stalked Nam by making unwanted contact.
Nam reported to 112 at 11:50 p.m. on the 30th, saying, "A person claiming to be Jeon Chang-jo's mother has called dozens of times and is sending KakaoTalk messages and texts saying 'Let's talk.'"
Police confirmed that the reported individual made about 20 calls and sent messages to Nam from noon to evening that day.
However, it has not been confirmed whether the person is actually Jeon's mother. The police are investigating through communication inquiries such as mobile phone subscriber checks to determine if the person contacting Nam is indeed Jeon's mother.
If the reported individual is confirmed to be Jeon's mother, the police plan to consider applying the Stalking Punishment Act for criminal prosecution.
A police official stated, "We plan to promptly investigate the stalking case involving Jeon's mother and Nam," and added that the reported individual will be summoned for questioning soon.
Earlier, Jeon himself was arrested on stalking charges after repeatedly knocking on the door and ringing the doorbell at Nam's mother's house in Seongnam City at 1:10 a.m. on the 26th, but was released after questioning.
Meanwhile, amid these events, a dispute over money occurred between Nam and his relatives, causing the police to be dispatched.
At around 3:20 a.m. on the 31st, a few hours after the stalking report was received, a loud argument broke out between Nam and his cousin A in front of Nam's mother's house in Jungwon-gu, Seongnam City.
A's child and Jeon's bodyguard are in a romantic relationship, and due to financial issues arising from this, A's side came to see Nam, leading to a scuffle during their conversation.
The police who responded to the report, considering that it was a family quarrel and no damage occurred, mediated between both parties on the spot and then withdrew.
