Lumpy Skin Disease Also Occurs in Changwon, Gyeongnam... "Temporary Movement Suspension"

Lumpy skin disease has occurred in Changwon, Gyeongnam, leading to a temporary movement restriction order in the Gyeongnam region.

According to the Lumpy Skin Disease Central Accident Response Headquarters on the 31st, six additional cases were reported the previous day in Changwon and Gochang, Jeonbuk. With the first occurrence of lumpy skin disease in Changwon, Gyeongnam, the Central Response Headquarters issued a temporary movement restriction order for cattle farm workers and vehicles entering and exiting the Gyeongnam area.

So far, the affected areas have expanded to 25 cities and counties, with a total of 67 cases reported. The Central Response Headquarters is currently conducting tests on four cases.

Lumpy skin disease is a Category 1 livestock infectious disease caused by a virus that infects only cattle. It is not transmissible to humans. It is characterized by high fever and skin nodules (hard lumps). It is mainly spread by blood-sucking insects such as mosquitoes, and the mortality rate is below 10%.

The Central Response Headquarters plans to supply vaccines to all local governments nationwide by the 1st of next month through emergency vaccine importation and complete vaccination of all cattle nationwide by the 10th. Since antibodies form up to three weeks after vaccination, the Central Response Headquarters intends to evaluate the outbreak situation and defense levels with experts about three weeks after nationwide vaccination is completed, and consider adjusting the culling scope of affected farms.
