Starting treatment at Gangnam Bedro Hospital on the 1st of next month, Professor Yang is a trauma specialist who has professionally treated fracture trauma. He served as a trauma professor in the orthopedic department at Yonsei University College of Medicine for 33 years and continues related research as an emeritus professor. Even after retirement, he has treated soldiers injured during training at the Armed Forces Capital Hospital.

Professor Yang Gyu-hyun has received numerous awards for his outstanding trauma-related research, including the Korean Orthopedic Association Academic Grand Prize, the Korean Fracture Society Best Paper Award, the Korean Bone Metabolism Society MSD Academic Award, and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology President’s Award. He has published four papers as corresponding author in the 'Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (JBJS)', the most prestigious international journal in orthopedics, and also published papers as corresponding author in 'Radiology', the leading journal in the field of radiology. In December last year, he published a monograph on intramedullary nailing treatment through Springer Nature titled 'The Art of Intramedullary Nailing for Femoral Fracture.'

He has continuously contributed to academia, having served as president of the Korean Fracture Society and the Korean Bone Metabolism Society, and is also a member of the American Orthopaedic Trauma Association and the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research. In 2018, he was selected as a full member of the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences, the highest authority in the Korean medical community.

For 24 years, Professor Yang has served as the dedicated team doctor for the SK men’s professional basketball team, consistently engaging in social service activities. For the past three years, he has also been volunteering his medical expertise by visiting a residential facility for severely disabled individuals in Paju City once a month as a contracted physician.

Going forward, Professor Yang will focus on specialized treatment as the head of the fracture trauma department within the orthopedic division at Gangnam Bedro Hospital, addressing areas such as lower limb fractures, upper limb fractures, osteoporosis, and foot diseases. Especially since Gangnam Bedro Hospital was upgraded to a general hospital in April and now operates a 24-hour emergency room, he plans to lead the stable operation of a specialized trauma team as a regional hub hospital and respond meticulously to various trauma patients visiting the hospital.

Professor Yang said, “As a trauma expert who has researched and treated fractures for 33 years, I decided to join Gangnam Bedro Hospital because I highly regard its potential to solidify its position as a regional hub general hospital while possessing specialized know-how in the bone and joint field. Based on my accumulated professional medical experience and knowledge, I will provide the best medical services to trauma patients in the region who visit the hospital.”
