Incheon Urban Corporation (iH) announced that the 'Guwol 2 Public Housing District,' promoted in accordance with the government's housing supply policy, received district designation approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 30th.
The Guwol 2 Public Housing District will supply 16,000 housing units on approximately 2.2㎢ (670,000 pyeong) of land spanning Namdong-gu Guwol-dong, Namchon-dong, Susan-dong, Yeonsu-gu Seonhak-dong, and Michuhol-gu Munhak-dong and Gwankyo-dong. It is equipped with transportation facilities such as Namdong IC and Incheon Line 1, as well as various convenience facilities nearby.
iH plans to start related service projects next year, obtain district plan approval in 2025, begin construction in 2026, and complete land development by 2029.
iH intends to establish a metropolitan transportation improvement plan to enhance metropolitan accessibility to Seoul and Gyeonggi-do by improving the frequently congested Namdong IC section and constructing and expanding surrounding roads. Additionally, it will create a green space system of over 600,000㎡ linked with surrounding green areas such as Seunghaksan and Munhaksan.
Furthermore, a national urban park will be created by restoring the damaged greenbelt in the Nonhyeon-dong area of Namdong-gu. This is part of the Sorae Wetlands National Urban Park project, which Incheon City is promoting as a policy. Through the restoration project of the damaged area, it will contribute to Incheon City's policy projects and provide citizens with abundant green spaces and a pleasant ecological environment.
Jo Dong-am, president of iH, said, "Until now, development in Incheon has been concentrated on the outskirts of the city such as Songdo, Cheongna, and Geomdan New Town, leading to population outflow from the old downtown area. We expect that the development of the Guwol 2 district will prevent population outflow from the old downtown and contribute to balanced urban development."
