Ministry of the Interior and Safety Translates 232 Public Signs into 8 Foreign Languages

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 30th that it has created translation standards in eight foreign languages for 232 public signs installed near public transportation, tourist sites, and construction sites, and will distribute them to over 400 organizations including central government agencies, local governments, and public institutions.

The eight foreign languages translated this time are English, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, Mongolian, Spanish, and Russian. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will distribute these translation standards to each institution and require that signs in places frequented by many foreign tourists and workers display foreign languages such as English alongside Korean.

Meanwhile, the Ministry has made the translation content available on the Naver Dictionary app and the Public Data Portal website so that companies can also utilize it.

Seo Juhyun, Director of the Innovation Organization Bureau, stated, “Signs in places with many users such as public transportation must be easily understood by everyone to ensure safety for all,” adding, “We will continue to promote government innovation by expanding the application of universal design in public services.”
