Geumcheon-gu Attaches 'Fine Dust Adsorption Filters' to All 132 Village Buses and Official Vehicles... 74 Village Buses and 58 Medium-to-Large Official Vehicles Equipped with Filters... Adsorbs and Decomposes Vehicle Exhaust Pollutants During Operation, Reduces Ultrafine Dust Along Roadsides
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that as a close-to-daily-life fine dust reduction measure to protect the health of residents, 'fine dust adsorption filters' have been attached to all village buses and official vehicles.
Geumcheon-gu is located along roads with heavy traffic such as Siheung-daero and Seobu Expressway. Measures were needed to reduce dust generated from roads, which are the main source of ultrafine dust emissions.
The 'fine dust adsorption filters' were attached to a total of 132 vehicles, including 74 village buses and 58 medium-to-large official vehicles. Made of eco-friendly special fabric, the filters adsorb and reduce harmful pollutants in the air such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and sulfur oxides (SOx) emitted from vehicle exhaust gases.
According to a 2019 test report from the Korea Testing & Research Institute, the adsorption filters installed on vehicles are known to be more than 10 times more effective in reducing fine dust compared to fixed adsorption filters installed on roadside fences, because the vehicles move powered by their engines. When 132 vehicles operate, the effect is equivalent to planting 7,656 trees annually. (Equivalent to planting 58 trees per bus annually)
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, "We will continue to reduce fine dust through regular filter replacements and create a clear and clean city where residents can live with peace of mind."
