Bomb Explodes at Jehovah's Witness Event in Indonesia...1 Dead, Dozens Injured

At a Jehovah's Witness event held in southern India, a homemade bomb exploded, killing at least one person and injuring dozens, major foreign media reported on the 29th (local time).

According to reports, the bomb exploded around 9:40 a.m. at a convention center in Kalamassery near the port city of Kochi in Kerala, southern India. At the time of the incident, more than 2,000 Jehovah's Witnesses were attending the event.

The Kerala police stated that preliminary investigations revealed one person dead and 36 injured. They also announced that a homemade explosive device appeared to have been used in the incident. However, when local reporters asked if it seemed to be a terrorist attack, they said, "At this stage, we cannot say anything. We need to investigate further to confirm the details."

Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of Kerala, described the incident as very unfortunate and said the police are taking it very seriously, instructing that the injured be provided with the best possible medical care. The Indian government also dispatched eight personnel from the National Security Guard, an anti-terrorism unit, to Kerala.
