On the 29th, Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun reported that Ayumu Tomikawa, the father of Mei Tomikawa, a Japanese victim of the 'Itaewon disaster,' said, "The families and friends of the victims have suffered great wounds both physically and mentally. I hope the deaths of the victims will not be in vain."

According to the report, Ayumu Tomikawa attended a memorial service held in Nemuro City, Hokkaido, to commemorate the first anniversary of the deceased, and told reporters, "A year has passed in the blink of an eye. At first, it was sad and heartbreaking. There must have been so many things she still wanted to do..."

The deceased, who was 26 years old at the time of the accident, had come to Seoul in June to study Korean when the tragedy occurred. About 20 people, including two of her friends, attended the memorial service that day.

Earlier, on the 17th, Pae Byung-soo, the Consul General of Korea in Sapporo, visited the home of the deceased in Nemuro City and met with Mei Tomikawa’s parents. Ayumu Tomikawa told Consul General Pae, "An accident like this must never happen again in the Korea my daughter loved," and Consul General Pae said, "Koreans will not forget Mei, who loved Korea. We will take proper measures," Yomiuri reported.
