Under the clear autumn sky in Changwon, 100,000 colorful chrysanthemums are romantically coloring the blue sea.


Changwon Metropolitan City in Gyeongnam held the opening ceremony of the nation’s largest chrysanthemum festival, the ‘23rd Masan Chrysanthemum Festival,’ at the 3·15 Haeyang Nuri Park.

The opening ceremony, held on the 28th at 6:30 PM with numerous guests and citizens in attendance, began with a declaration marking the start of the festival, followed by a spectacular marine drone light show over the sea that beautifully adorned the autumn night sky. Popular singers such as Lee Soo-young, Ji-won, and Kim Da-hyun then performed congratulatory shows, further elevating the festival’s excitement.


Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Metropolitan City, said, “For the past year, chrysanthemum farmers have carefully cultivated chrysanthemums using Masan’s accumulated seedling technology for today,” adding, “We hope you fully experience the charm and excellence unique to Masan chrysanthemums through this festival.”


Marking its 23rd year, the Masan Chrysanthemum Festival is held under the theme “Chrysanthemum! Will you give my heart to the sea?” from the 28th to November 6th for 10 days. The main festival venues include 3·15 Haeyang Nuri Park, Happo Waterfront Park, Dodong Island, and Odong-dong area. The festival operates from 9 AM to 9 PM daily, with free admission.


The festival site, spanning 25,000㎡ from the Kim Ju-yeol martyr statue in the central square of 3·15 Haeyang Nuri Park, is decorated with 100,000 chrysanthemums and 201 chrysanthemum artworks across 8 themes. Visitors can also see the world’s largest multi-flower masterpiece “Cheonhyang Yeoshim,” which has set new records every year.


Colorful chrysanthemum artworks can also be seen in Happo Waterfront Park, Odong-dong Cultural Square, and Dodong Island. Additionally, various cultural performances and experiential events continue daily, enhancing the festival’s atmosphere.


To accommodate tourists visiting the festival, the city has prepared over 3,400 temporary parking spaces. During the festival period, a free shuttle bus runs every 30 minutes from 10 AM, operating until 6 PM on weekdays and 9 PM on weekends, connecting Masan Station, Odong-dong Cultural Square, Masan Fish Market, and 3·15 Haeyang Nuri Park.
