Waterworks Headquarters September Inspection Results: "Very Safe"
Tap water in the Ulsan area recently received a "pass" grade as drinking water in a recent survey.
The Ulsan Waterworks Headquarters (Head Lee Young-hwan) announced on the 29th that the results of the Ulsan tap water quality inspection conducted in September met both South Korea's drinking water quality standards and the World Health Organization (WHO) water quality standards, indicating a very safe level.
The water quality inspection facilities were the Hoeya and Cheonsang Water Purification Plants, and the inspection items numbered 60.
In detailed inspection results, △ four microbial items including general bacteria, total coliform group, and Escherichia coli △ twelve harmful inorganic substances such as ammonia nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, fluoride, heavy metals, and boron were all found to be "not detected or below the standard value."
Also, △ seventeen items of organic substances harmful to health such as phenol, benzene, and carbon tetrachloride were "not detected," and △ eleven items of disinfectants and disinfection by-products such as residual chlorine, total trihalomethanes, and chloroform were measured as "not detected or below the standard value."
△ Sixteen items affecting aesthetics such as hardness, odor, taste, color, and turbidity were also investigated as "not detected, suitable, or below the standard value," respectively.
Additionally, water quality inspection results for a total of 108 general household faucets and 6 old pipe faucets, selected based on the population served by each district and county, showed that residual chlorine was at an appropriate level and all points met water quality standards.
A Waterworks Headquarters official said, "According to regular water quality inspection results, the tap water supplied from the purification plants to each household is much lower than the drinking water quality standard, making it safe and clean water," adding, "It is safe to drink with confidence."
The Ulsan Waterworks Headquarters is implementing the "Our Home Tap Water Safety Confirmation System" to ensure the safe use of tap water directly related to citizens' health and to alleviate citizens' concerns.
The Our Home Tap Water Safety Confirmation System allows citizens to apply for free water quality inspections through the Ulsan Waterworks Headquarters website, the Mulsarang website, or by phone.
