Cheongsong-gun Creates Synergy for Apple Festival Through Sports Competitions!

Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongbuk Province plans to create a synergy effect that enriches the Apple Festival by consecutively hosting various sports events during the ‘17th Cheongsong Apple Festival’ held from November 1 to 5.

During the festival, Cheongsong-gun will hold the ‘2nd Golden Apple Cup National High School Ssireum Championship,’ the ‘18th Nakdongjeongmaek Climbing Competition,’ and the ‘11th Cheongsong Apple Cup National Non-Ranking Tennis Tournament for Amateurs.’

First, on November 2, the Golden Apple Cup National High School Ssireum Championship will be held at the special ssireum arena at the festival site, featuring team competitions for high school divisions and individual competitions by weight class.

About 10 teams from across the country will participate to expand the base of Ssireum, a traditional Korean sport, and present thrilling matches to the audience.

On November 5, the 18th Nakdongjeongmaek Climbing Competition will be held along the Yongjeon Stream, where many mountain climbing enthusiasts nationwide will enjoy the beautiful autumn scenery of Cheongsong at its peak of fall foliage and have a time of harmony. Additionally, from November 4 to 5, the 11th Cheongsong Apple Cup National Non-Ranking Tennis Tournament for Amateurs will be held at the Cheongsong-gun Citizen Stadium tennis courts and auxiliary stadium, attracting tennis players from all over the country to visit Cheongsong-gun.

Governor Yoon Kyung-hee said, “We plan to provide diverse attractions to the athletes and spectators visiting Cheongsong and promote Cheongsong apples, a premium product made by nature, nationwide.” He added, “By linking the Apple Festival with sports events, we expect it to greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy.”
