- Gijang Where You Can Feel Romance and Sensibility... Becoming a Famous Spot in Busan
- Luxury Hotel & Resort Adding Romance, 'Banyan Tree Haeundae Busan' Also Under Development
Busan's Gijang-gun is recently gaining attention as an emerging tourist destination and a hidden hot spot. Various travel communities have been spreading the word that it is a must-visit course in Busan trips, thanks to its tranquil atmosphere and beautiful natural scenery.
Recently, various cultural events have been held, and frequent mentions in the media have helped it establish itself as a famous spot in Busan. According to Gijang-gun, on the 14th, the 17th Gijang Chaseong Cultural Festival was held around the Hyundai Dream Ball Park area in Gijang.
The Chaseong Cultural Festival is Gijang-gun's largest cultural event aimed at inheriting and developing Gijang's traditional culture, fostering community harmony, and promoting local pride. Citizens gathered there enjoyed a variety of attractions and unique experiential programs.
Also, Gijang-gun's tourism promotion YouTube channel, 'Gijang Carmen,' surpassed a total of 1 million views within three months of its launch, drawing attention as a channel for revitalizing local tourism. Additionally, the music video for singer Na Hoon-a's 'Gijang Galmaegi,' filmed in Gijang-gun, recorded 1.64 million views within four weeks of its release.
The recently emerging Gijang-gun is located where the South Sea and East Sea meet, known for its clear waters and abundant seafood, producing many tribute products that were once served on the royal table. It is also a region rich in stories and landmarks, with many traditional folktales passed down through generations.
According to legend, Ok-nyeo (Jade Maiden) discovered a geomantically auspicious spot while looking down on the human world and descended to the land. The place resembled a spinning wheel and loom, so Ok-nyeo settled there and wove cloth. Later, because Ok-nyeo set up a loom and wove silk threads there, the area was called 'Gijang' (機張), meaning loom (gi) and to spread (jang), making it a historically rich and beautiful region.
At Gijang-gun's Yeonhwa-ri beach, you can hear the engine sounds of small fishing boats heading to the fishing grounds at sunrise, evoking the romantic atmosphere of an old fishing village. At sunset, you can enjoy an emotional evening while gazing at the yellow lights of Yeonhwabong on the west side of the beach and the fishing village cafes.
Gijang-gun is not only beautiful but also great for enjoying fresh seafood. During the anchovy festival, one of the most famous seafood festivals associated with Gijang-gun, the quiet fishing village of Yeonhwa-ri and the Daebyeon Port area become popular spots for food lovers seeking delicious meals and travelers looking for memorable experiences. In the sea in front of Yeonhwa-ri, haenyeo (female divers) bring up fresh abalone, sea urchins, conchs, and other seafood, which can be enjoyed at prices cheaper than in Jeju Island or other tourist destinations.
Luxury accommodations that add romance to Gijang-gun travel are also planned. In this area, the global luxury resort brand Banyan Tree is preparing to open 'Banyan Tree Haeundae Busan.'
Banyan Tree is a luxury brand at the top tier of the Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts group, planting its roots in scenic locations worldwide according to its discerning standards. It is a brand that coexists with the local community, nature, and people.
A representative from Lupentis Co., Ltd., the operator of 'Banyan Tree Haeundae Busan,' said, “The reason Banyan Tree, a global luxury resort, chose Gijang, where you can be the first to see the beautiful beach of Osiria, is because they empathized with and recognized the unique value of this area. The architectural design reflects the panoramic ocean view near Orangdae, famous for its sunrise, and the diverse natural environment unique to Gijang. By blending Banyan Tree’s serene and sophisticated sensibility with an exotic atmosphere, it will create a unique and romantic ambiance, presenting a paradise on earth.”
'Banyan Tree Haeundae Busan' will consist of three buildings ranging from three basement levels to twelve floors above ground. It will have a total of 195 rooms, including 179 cluster-type rooms and 16 villa-style standalone rooms adjacent to the sea on the front side.
All rooms will offer beautiful sea views, and private wellness sanctuary rooms equipped with private pools on individual terraces and facilities for yoga and Pilates within the rooms will be available.
