“Cooperation for Airport New Town Construction”… Gyeongbuk Province Partners with ICT Specialist CJ OliveNetworks Gyeongbuk Provincial Government Office

Through this agreement, Gyeongbuk Province and CJ OliveNetworks plan to cooperate to successfully develop the airport new town linked with Daegu-Gyeongbuk Airport by creating a sustainable urban foundation and to achieve the formation of a competitive airport economic zone.

The detailed cooperation areas include six fields: lifestyle and cultural services and ICT infrastructure for the airport-type smart city; space design and media content for IT new technology convergence in the airport new town; smart manufacturing and logistics in the aviation logistics and aircraft maintenance industrial complex; industries related to the agricultural and food industry cluster; creation of a digital convergence cultural and artistic space at the Uiseong tourism cultural complex (Uiseong Land); and support for AI talent development programs for students in Uiseong County.

CJ OliveNetworks’ representative social contribution program, the ‘CJ SW Creative Camp,’ will be supported for middle school students in the Uiseong area to foster an environment where they can grow into AI talents, which is also expected to help reduce the digital education gap between regions.

Prior to the signing ceremony, Yoo In-sang, CEO of CJ OliveNetworks, gave a lecture titled “The Fourth Industrial Revolution and the Future of Smart Cities” to employees of related departments at the provincial office, sharing know-how on the national pilot smart city project and holding a discussion on smart city policy directions and successful smart city implementation.

CEO Yoo said, “Based on the new data technologies possessed by CJ OliveNetworks, we plan to participate in the airport new town and industrial complex development projects promoted by Gyeongsangbuk-do,” adding, “We will closely cooperate to build ICT infrastructure in the airport-type smart city and establish systems for smart manufacturing and logistics within the industrial complex.”

Governor Lee Cheol-woo emphasized, “When the airport is constructed, the business and logistics advanced industry ecosystem will be highly developed centered around the airport, evolving into a global business production hub as an airport economic zone, which is a global trend.”

The governor added, “We plan to incorporate corporate know-how from the planning stage of the airport new town and build it as a core hub city of the airport economic zone that extends beyond Daegu-Gyeongbuk to the world.”

Gyeongbuk Province is promoting the development of an airport new town near Daegu-Gyeongbuk Airport in the Uiseong area, covering approximately 3.3 million square meters. The new town will include four zones: a smart aviation logistics complex functioning as a logistics and industrial hub for the central-southern region; an aviation industry cluster; an agricultural and food industry cluster; and a mobility specialized city (M-City) integrating advanced technologies such as information and communication technology (ICT) and artificial intelligence (AI).
