Yangsan-dong Without a Middle School, Yangsan Middle School Scheduled to Begin Construction in 2025
Seven Educational Institutions to Be Established in Segyo 2 District by 2026
Osan City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 25th that the establishment of various schools and kindergartens being promoted in Yangsan-dong and Segyo 2 District is progressing smoothly.
The city explained that in the case of Yangsan-dong, Yangsan Middle School, a long-awaited project by residents, is undergoing administrative procedures without any setbacks with the goal of starting construction in 2025. To this end, the city plans to support the commencement of construction within the scheduled period by going through various administrative procedures such as the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education’s financial investment review and the Ministry of Education’s central investment review.
According to the city, since there is currently no middle school in Yangsan-dong, local students have had to commute to nearby Hwaseong City, which has continuously raised the need for establishing a school, but securing school land had been delayed. Accordingly, Mayor Ikwonjae of Osan City successfully concluded land contracts through consultations with private developers immediately after the launch of the 8th civil administration, and the city explained that it plans to complete land acquisition by the end of the year.
The city also added that a total of seven new schools are being established for residents of Segyo 2 District, including ▲ one kindergarten ▲ three elementary schools ▲ one middle school ▲ two high schools. The kindergarten, Mulgbitnarae Kindergarten in Gwoldong, is scheduled to open next year. Osan Elementary School (Nueup-dong) is being designed with the goal of new establishment and relocation in 2026, while Sedam Elementary School (Gwoldong) aims to open in 2024, and Segyo 2-5 Elementary School (Gwoldong) and Segyo 2-2 Middle School (Gasudong) are targeting opening in 2025, respectively.
The city further explained that the establishment of specialized high schools is also becoming visible. Osan Software High School (Gwoldong) and Segyo 2-2 High School (Tapdong), which provide specialized education related to the 4th industrial revolution, are also being designed with the goal of opening in 2026.
Mayor I said, "We will maintain an active cooperative system not only with the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education and Osan Hwaseong Education Support Office but also with private developers to ensure a smooth establishment process." He added, "We will continue to prioritize securing school facilities for future generations and local infrastructure for safety as important tasks to transform the city into a place where people want to raise their children."
