"Taking all the individual titles in one go."
Last year's Rookie of the Year, Lee Ye-won, has a bold ambition. She will participate in the SK Networks·Seoul Economic Ladies Classic (total prize money 800 million KRW), part of the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour, held over four days from the 26th at Pinx Golf Club in Seogwipo, Jeju (par 72, 6,748 yards). Lee Ye-won is having her best season yet, securing three wins including one major. She is leading in prize money (1.32104 billion KRW), points for the Player of the Year (609 points), and average score (70.62). In terms of multiple wins, she is tied for first with Park Ji-young and Lim Jin-hee. Winning this tournament would virtually guarantee her multiple titles.
Lee Ye-won challenges for her 4th win of the season at the SK Networks·Seoul Economic Daily Ladies Classic.
In her second year, Lee Ye-won has a good record in Jeju. Of her three wins, two were achieved in Jeju. She earned her first career victory at the Lotte Rent-a-Car Ladies Open (Lotte Skyhill Jeju) in April and completed a multi-win season at the Doosan Construction We’ve Championship (Jeju Teddy Valley Golf & Resort) in August. She has been on a steep upward trajectory, finishing in the top 10 six times, including two wins, in her last 10 tournaments.
Lee Ye-won said, "I usually like Jeju Island, so I have been able to play comfortably every time I come to a tournament here," adding, "I will do my best, inspired by the good energy from my two wins in Jeju." She continued, "This course has difficult greens, so I need to pay extra attention to my second shots and putting," and expressed her determination, "I want to focus on my play and finish the season well."
Defending champion Lee So-mi is a ‘dark horse’. Of her five career wins, four were on courses with strong winds. She has won three times in Jeju alone. This is why she is nicknamed the ‘Queen of the Wind’ or ‘Jeju Queen’. She is scheduled to participate in the final stage of the LPGA Tour Qualifying Series in December. This might be her last season on the KLPGA Tour. Lee So-mi said, "I won’t just try to hit low shots because of the wind. I will choose shot shapes according to the situation," adding, "Although my recent results have been good, I am not satisfied and want to finish the remaining tournaments with even better results."
Lim Jin-hee and Park Ji-young, who have also secured three wins each, are strong contenders for the title. Especially Lim Jin-hee, who became the inaugural champion at last week’s Sangsangin·Korea Economic TV Open, aims for back-to-back wins in her hometown Jeju. She said, "My wedge shots and putting have been going well this season, leading to good performances," and vowed, "Since I won in Jeju this year, I will show confident play in this tournament as well."
