Gwanak-gu, Disaster Response Safety Korea Training

On the 23rd, Joint Disaster Response Drill with Related Agencies Simulating the 'Seoul National University Large Fire'... Introducing an Integrated Training Method Linking the Disaster Safety Situation Room (Discussion Drill) and Seoul National University (On-site Drill) in Real Time

Gwanak-gu, Disaster Response Safety Korea Training

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is launching the '2023 Disaster Response Safe Korea Drill' to strengthen practical response capabilities in preparation for large-scale disasters.

The Disaster Response Safe Korea Drill, led by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, is a nationwide comprehensive disaster response exercise involving both the central government and local governments simultaneously, and will be conducted from October 23 to November 3.

On the first day of the drill, October 23, the district conducted a 'focused drill' simulating a disaster scenario of a 'large-scale fire in a densely populated facility' at the Seoul National University Student Union Building. The drill emphasized that disasters occurring in facilities used by many people can lead to significant human and material damage, and thorough on-site training was carried out.

About 350 participants from 14 related organizations, including the Gwanak Fire Station, Gwanak Police Station, and private organizations, joined the focused drill centered around the Gwanak-gu Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters.

Notably, this year the district introduced an 'integrated drill' method for the first time, linking the Disaster Safety Situation Room (Gwanak-gu Office) and the disaster site (Seoul National University Student Union Building) in real time.

Key functional departments of the district and related organizations gathered at the Gwanak-gu Office Disaster Safety Situation Room to conduct a tabletop exercise simulating the fire outbreak. There, they presented and explored response measures such as damage recovery and restoration plans according to the on-site situation and time-based virtual scenarios.

Simultaneously, Seoul National University, in cooperation with the district office and related organizations, conducted on-site training by deploying personnel and equipment.

During the on-site training, participants checked their respective roles through exercises including ▲fire evacuation guidance ▲fire suppression ▲life rescue ▲quarantine activities. Additionally, the district involved Seoul National University students directly in the training to raise residents' awareness of disasters and strengthen their capacity to respond quickly in case of disaster occurrence.

The district expects that this integrated drill method will help related organizations accurately grasp the disaster site situation together and enable rapid decision-making according to their roles, thereby contributing to the establishment of a swift disaster response system in actual disaster situations.

Furthermore, during the Safe Korea Drill period, the district plans to focus on strengthening practical response capabilities against disasters by conducting various exercises such as ▲earthquake evacuation drills ▲fire truck passage drills ▲wildfire preparedness tabletop exercises ▲safety capacity enhancement education.

Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, stated, "While accident prevention is the best measure, continuous preparedness training is not optional but essential to prepare for any eventuality," and added, "Building on this drill, all related organizations will communicate and cooperate to do their best to make Gwanak a safer place."
