Price Increase After 4 Years, 4,300 Won Applied from November
The basic taxi fare in Suncheon-si, Jeollanam-do (for mid-sized taxis) will increase from 3,300 won to 4,300 won.
The increased basic fare will be applied starting from 0:00 on November 1.
The city raised the basic fare by 1,000 won to improve the management of the taxi industry, which is struggling due to rising labor and transportation costs, enhance service quality, and improve the treatment of workers.
This fare increase was proposed by the Jeollanam-do Taxi Association to Jeollanam-do last year, underwent a verification period of about a year, and the taxi fare and rate application plan was issued to each city and county. Suncheon decided the implementation timing at a taxi fare and rate adjustment meeting involving various sectors and announced the changes.
The distance fare will change from 100 won per 134 meters to 100 won per 130 meters, shortening the applicable distance, and the time fare will change from 100 won per 32 seconds at speeds below 15 km/h to 100 won per 30 seconds, shortening the applicable time.
The ‘complex surcharge’ applied when operating in eup/myeon areas and other complex surcharge zones will be applied from the boarding point, and the surcharge rate has been adjusted from the existing 35% to 40%. The out-of-city surcharge will be applied the same as the complex surcharge without separate charges.
The late-night surcharge remains the same as the current rate (00:00?04:00, 20%), and the overall increase rate is 19.75%.
The city expects that the taxi fare adjustment, the first in four years since 2019, will revitalize the taxi industry, which has been struggling due to COVID-19 and a decrease in taxi passengers.
A Suncheon city official explained, “From the day of the increase, meter adjustments for all taxis in Suncheon will be carried out sequentially, and passengers who board taxis without adjusted meters can pay the fare according to the taxi fare table (fare conversion table).”
