WeRobotics Hosts Free Trial Event for Wearable Walking Assistance Robot WIM

WeRobotics Hosts Free Trial Event for Wearable Walking Assistance Robot WIM [Provided by WeRoBotics]

Wearable robot development startup WIRobotics (co-CEOs Yongjae Kim (Professor at Korea University of Technology and Education) and Yeonbaek Lee) is recruiting participants for a pre-experience event to try out their new concept wearable mobility device, WIM, before its official launch.

This event targets seniors aged 66 and above who have difficulties with walking. Selected participants will have the opportunity to experience the wearable robot WIM free of charge for about an hour in a one-on-one session with a professional physical therapist. Applications for the WIM pre-experience event are being accepted on the WIRobotics website until November 10.

The wearable mobility device WIM is a wearable walking assistance device that innovates the weight and usability of wearable robots, expanding its scope to Last Mile Mobility and healthcare devices.

This year, WIRobotics collaborated with the Yeongtong-gu Public Health Center in Suwon City to conduct a walking exercise program for seniors in Suwon, where participants wore the wearable robot WIM while walking in parks around the city. As a result, improvements were reported in physical abilities such as walking speed, balance, and agility, and the participants’ walking age was on average 16 years younger after 4 weeks of exercise compared to before, as previously reported.

WIRobotics CEO Yeonbaek Lee stated, “Walking exercise is the most basic form of exercise that can be done alone without any tools. However, for elderly people who cannot walk long distances due to age or need to use assistive devices like canes, improving and enhancing walking ability is almost impossible alone. Correcting posture and improving speed or stride requires consistent proper walking exercises rather than habitual walking with incorrect posture, and the walking assistance robot WIM helps with this.”

He added, “The walking assistance robot WIM is scheduled to be released in the first half of next year. Although there have been inquiries from people who want to use it immediately, we could not accommodate them due to final product refinement work before launch. Therefore, we are conducting this pre-experience event to allow at least some of those who have shown interest to try it and to respond to the enthusiastic attention we have received.”
