Kakao announced on the 20th that it has obtained the Certified Electronic Document Intermediary certification from the Ministry of Science and ICT.
The Certified Electronic Document Intermediary certification is a system in which the Minister of Science and ICT certifies entities that ensure safety and reliability in the distribution of electronic documents according to the Framework Act on Electronic Documents and Electronic Transactions. Electronic documents distributed through intermediaries are guaranteed the same legal effect as registered mail received in paper form.
Through obtaining the Certified Electronic Document Intermediary certification, Kakao plans to introduce ‘KakaoTalk Electronic Documents’ within the KakaoTalk Wallet service as early as this year. KakaoTalk Electronic Documents is a service that allows users to easily send, receive, view, and store important everyday documents such as notices and notifications issued by public and private institutions.
KakaoTalk Electronic Documents can be easily accessed using the ‘Kakao Certificate,’ which is currently used by more than 30 million users, enhancing user convenience. It is also expected to contribute to protecting trees and reducing fine dust and carbon emissions by reducing paper usage.
Yang Ju-il, head of the KakaoTalk division at Kakao, said, “By obtaining the Certified Electronic Document Intermediary certification, we expect to contribute to the revitalization of the domestic electronic document industry,” and added, “We will continue to expand services so that users can easily manage various digital assets such as certificates and electronic documents beyond everyday conversations.”
Meanwhile, KakaoTalk Wallet, launched on December 16, 2020, is a space where various digital assets for certificates, electronic documents, and identification can be stored and managed within KakaoTalk. Currently, users can check ▲Kakao Certificate ▲Electronic Certificate ▲Tok Student ID ▲Access QR codes in KakaoTalk Wallet.
