On the 19th, LX Group announced that it will hold the '2023 LX Cup Korea Women's Baseball Tournament' on the 21st at LG Champions Park in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, in collaboration with the Korea Women's Baseball Federation.
LX Group participated as a sponsor of women's baseball last year and established this new tournament, succeeding the 'LG Cup Korea Women's Baseball Tournament' launched by LG Electronics in 2012. The tournament resumed last year after a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is the only nationwide women's baseball tournament in Korea sponsored by a corporation. It is conducted in a tournament format divided into the Champ League (upper league) and Future League (lower league), with 16 teams in the Champ League and 25 teams in the Future League, totaling about 1,000 participants.
Key points to watch include whether the Ladies team, the reigning Champ League champions of last season's LX Cup Korea Women's Baseball Tournament, will face off against the Changmiya team, which won the Champ League at last month's Iksan Mayor's Cup, as well as the performances of teams like the Real Diamonds and Black Pearls, who have been achieving good results in various competitions. The opening and final games of the Champ League will be broadcast live on YouTube.
An official from LX Holdings stated, "We will continue to show interest and support so that Korean women's baseball can gain public love and take a step forward. We will do our best to successfully host the tournament to contribute to the expansion and revitalization of Korean women's baseball."
