Chungnam Yesan 'Hwangsae Park' Newly Designated as an Ecotourism Site

‘Hwangsae Park’ in Yesan, Chungnam, has been newly designated as an ecological tourism area this year and will receive operational funding from the government.

According to Chungnam Province on the 19th, ecological tourism areas were introduced by the Ministry of Environment in 2013, and a total of 29 locations nationwide have been designated so far. Once designated as an ecological tourism area, annual operational expenses and other budgets can be supported by national funds.

In 2013, Chungnam had the migratory bird habitats around Seosan Cheonsuman, Seocheon Geumgang Estuary, and Yubudo designated as ecological tourism areas.

The new designation of Hwangsae Park as an ecological tourism area is an achievement after 10 years since the designation of areas such as Cheonsuman.

With the designation of Hwangsae Park as an ecological tourism area, starting next year, half of the annual operational cost of 90 million KRW will be supported by national funds.

Taking this opportunity, Chungnam Province plans to develop and operate ecological tourism programs centered on Hwangsae Park and strengthen the formation and operation of local ecological tourism resident councils.

Lee Sang-mo, Director of the Carbon Neutral Policy Division of Chungnam Province, said, “Ecological tourism is the optimal system where the local nature and residents can coexist,” adding, “We will strive to revitalize ecological tourism in Chungnam and establish a virtuous cycle system that benefits the region.”
