GS25 announced on the 19th that it will introduce strawberry sandwiches in October, the earliest launch date ever, using strawberries grown in smart farms.
GS25, a convenience store operated by GS Retail, will launch strawberry sandwiches through online pre-orders starting October 24, in collaboration with the smart farm company ‘NextOn.’ Although the launch is earlier than usual, the sandwiches use uniform and high-quality strawberries, expected to bring joy and greater satisfaction to customers. Due to the use of premium strawberries, the price is relatively high at 4,900 KRW, but as a launch promotion, it will be sold at a discounted price of 3,100 KRW, 1,800 KRW off.
Strawberry sandwiches have traditionally started online pre-orders every November, signaling the arrival of strawberry season. Looking at GS25’s online strawberry sandwich sales in 2022, it was an extremely popular product with about a 215% increase compared to the previous year.
NextOn is a smart farm company that succeeded in the world’s first year-round cultivation of low-temperature Korean strawberries. Strawberries are among the most difficult crops to cultivate in smart farms, but NextOn has succeeded in growing products with consistent quality year-round through cutting-edge technology, exporting the products, and promoting the excellent technology of K-smart farms through total cultivation solution exports.
Strawberry sandwiches can be ordered through the ‘Convenience Store Pre-Order Pickup’ menu on the ‘Our Neighborhood GS’ app. Orders are limited to 1,000 units every Tuesday, and customers can select their preferred time and store for pickup from 6 PM Wednesday until midnight the following Monday. Offline stores plan to offer the sandwiches in early December when the quality of seasonal open-field strawberries stabilizes.
Goda Seul, MD of the Fresh Meal Team at GS Retail, said, “Among sandwich products, strawberry sandwiches are extremely popular seasonal items that receive many customer inquiries as winter approaches every year. This year, GS25 is the first in the industry to launch strawberry sandwiches,” adding, “We plan to continuously expand various fruit sandwiches that can be enjoyed even out of season through ongoing collaboration with smart farms, so we ask for your great interest.”
