GPT-Based 'AI Legal Consultation'... Launch of Specialized Translation Program for Legal Field

Held on the 18th at the POSCO Center Art Hall in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, under the theme ‘The Future of LegalTech Led by Generative AI,’ the event featured LegalTech companies including ▲Law&Company ▲Loform ▲LexisNexis ▲Law&Good ▲AIlingo ▲LBox, offering forum attendees a chance to experience their platforms firsthand.
Law&Company introduced ‘BigCase,’ a legal information search service. Based on approximately 3.29 million precedents, BigCase provides advanced AI-powered features such as AI summary viewing, AI similar precedents, and issue-specific precedent viewing. Notably, ‘BigCase Plus’ offers not only precedents but also statutes, commentaries, decisions, and academic papers, along with statistical analysis results of over 840,000 first-instance criminal judgment documents, attracting significant interest from attendees.
Among the BigCase Plus services, the BigCase Graph program was impressive in that by entering crime names or other terms into the search bar, users could receive various statistical data such as the most frequently sentenced penalties for the crime and trends in the increase or decrease of commonly imposed sentences. However, BigCase Graph is available only to lawyer members.
Loform attracted attention as a platform that automatically drafts legal documents. Loform offers a service that allows easy automatic drafting of various legal documents such as contracts through simple input. The drafted documents can be shared for collaborative editing and review, and completed documents can be finalized with one-stop electronic signatures.
Using Loform’s platform, it was interesting to see how samples of various legal documents were databased and AI drafted the documents based on simple inputs. Loform provides over 230 types of legal documents, including employment contracts, service contracts, sales contracts, promissory notes, and inheritance documents, enabling users to draft and store most documents needed in daily life through AI.
LexisNexis’s ‘Lexis+ AI’ is a solution utilizing generative AI technology for legal purposes. Unlike existing legal AI functions, it enables interactive conversational searches for statutes, precedents, legal commentaries, and academic papers, and even generates legal content, facilitating legal research, summarization and analysis, and drafting of legal documents.
The most notable feature of Lexis+ AI was its conversational search function, which produces reliable results through interaction with users. Lexis+ AI provides the most relevant statutes and precedents conversationally without requiring users to individually review all statutes, precedents, commentaries, and papers retrieved by search terms or sentences. Legal document drafts could be created within seconds, and users could even request the tone of the document, producing customized materials suited to each task.
Law&Good offers legal consultation (case acceptance proposals), lawyer fee support, case management, and AI legal consultation services on its platform. The AI chatbot ‘Law&Bot,’ based on GPT, distinguishes itself by applying services centered on Korean law, enhancing convenience compared to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and others. Over 2,000 clients receive consultations monthly through Law&Bot, which conducts consultations using Law&Good’s proprietary database of 350,000 consultation records and external legal information data.
For example, when the question “I suffered damages worth 1 million won due to personal information leakage; can I get compensation through a lawsuit?” was entered, the response generated was, “If personal information is lost or damaged due to the intentional or negligent act of the personal information handler, compensation can be claimed up to 3 million won as damages.”
AIlingo provides translation services specialized in the legal field through AI. Legal translations have limitations with conventional translators, but AIlingo’s ‘OTRAN’ demonstrated speed improvements of 3 to 10 times compared to existing translators. Unlike ChatGPT, OTRAN is suitable for professional legal translation tasks. The translations by OTRAN closely matched the legal terminology and sentence style used in the legal community. For instance, the legal term ‘위계’ meaning ‘fraudulent method’ was omitted by ChatGPT in translation, whereas OTRAN clearly translated it as ‘fraudulent.’
At LBox, a notable service was the case and person analysis statistics program for lawyers. For example, by searching a judge’s name, LBox analyzed approximately 3 million judgment documents it holds to provide comprehensive information on the judge’s past rulings, types of cases, and courts served. However, this service is available only to professionals working in legal service roles such as lawyers.
