Coupang announced on the 17th that it will officially launch the free repair service for home appliances within the warranty period, called 'Coupang Free After-Service (A/S)'. Customers who purchase home appliances through Rocket Delivery on Coupang can now conveniently request A/S and receive on-site repairs for various home appliances, including products from small and medium-sized enterprises, via the Coupang application (app). Coupang expects that this official launch of free A/S will not only enhance customer convenience but also promote mutual growth for manufacturers and repair companies.
The Coupang Free A/S applies to approximately 400 products in categories such as TVs, laptops, refrigerators/freezers, washing machines/dryers, kitchen appliances, and vacuum cleaners, as long as the product warranty period has not expired. Even products purchased before the official launch of the free A/S can receive free repairs if they have the Coupang Free A/S badge in the product description. Popular brand products, including Carrier, are included, and currently, only HP laptops are eligible for application.
The free A/S benefit applies only to Rocket Delivery products. Customers do not need to be Wow Membership members to receive A/S benefits when purchasing eligible products. Using the free A/S service means Coupang customers do not have to go through the hassle of visiting repair shops themselves.
Small and medium-sized home appliance companies can also expect increased sales. Although there is a perception that A/S is inconvenient even if SME products are of good quality, the convenience of repairs will improve through Coupang Free A/S, increasing the potential for higher sales. For example, SME products popular in Coupang’s home appliance category, such as BELLE refrigerators and mid-sized company Anam Electronics TVs, will be eligible for free A/S benefits when purchased on Coupang.
Coupang plans to focus on mutual growth with small business owners by collaborating with local small repair companies and technicians to carry out repair services.
Repair requests can be made through the 'A/S Request' tab within the 'My Coupang' section of the Coupang app. For home appliance A/S, customers select their preferred date upon request, and a technician contracted with Coupang will contact the customer and visit on the scheduled date to perform the repair.
Free A/S for laptop products applies only in the Seoul area and is distinguished as the first in Korea to offer same-day free A/S service. If requested before 2 p.m., a quick service technician will pick up the product at the customer’s requested location, complete the repair, and deliver the product back to the customer on the same day. Repairs are conducted at the manufacturer’s official service center, and 100% genuine parts are used for replacements.
A Coupang representative said, "We are pleased that customers can purchase home appliances more comfortably on Coupang with the official launch of Coupang Free A/S," adding, "We plan to expand the number of free A/S eligible products to about 1,000 by the end of the year."
