Attorney Jeong Jun-ho, who announced his candidacy for the Buk-gu Gap district of Gwangju Metropolitan City in next year’s general election, listened to the difficulties faced by residents due to the construction of Subway Line 2.
On the 15th, Attorney Jeong held an on-site meeting with nearby residents in Jungheung-dong, Buk-gu, where the civil engineering work for Gwangju Urban Railway Line 2 is underway.
He inspected the site where damages such as housing cracks and ground subsidence are occurring frequently in the Jungheung-dong area due to the construction and heard the residents’ grievances.
At the meeting, residents strongly protested, saying, “During the construction, frequent vibrations have caused large and small cracks in dozens of detached houses and nearby commercial buildings, and the situation is gradually worsening, making us too anxious to live here.”
Attorney Jeong emphasized, “The safety of Jungheung-dong residents is the top priority,” adding, “Analyzing the causes of ground subsidence and housing cracks and carrying out reinforcement work to alleviate residents’ concerns must come first.”
He continued, “According to the ‘Framework Act on the Management of Disasters and Safety,’ there is an obligation to designate and manage specific target areas such as cracks and ground subsidence, and to take measures such as maintenance and safety inspections,” and said, “I will repeatedly request related agencies, the construction company, and local government officials to promptly take corrective actions to ease residents’ anxiety and prevent safety accidents.”
Attorney Jeong has challenged the National Assembly elections in the Buk-gu (Gap) area of Gwangju three times since the 20th general election in 2016. In the last local election, he was the only young candidate for a local government head in Gwangju and Jeonnam and also ran as a preliminary candidate for the mayor of Gwangju from the Democratic Party of Korea. He has served as the chairman of the Buk-gu Gap regional committee of the Democratic Party of Korea Gwangju Metropolitan City Party, vice chairman of the Policy Committee, vice chairman of the Legal Committee, ethics judge of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Party, and head of Organization Division 3 of the Gwangju campaign headquarters for presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung.
Currently, he serves as a standing operating committee member of the Democratic Party of Korea Gwangju Innovation Council and has been continuing an unwavering struggle to defend Lee Jae-myung as party leader until recently, putting all efforts into building solidarity and networks with Lee Jae-myung’s support forces.
