Until November 5, every Sunday at Gwangju Migrant Health Center, etc.
Interpreters also assigned... Additional consultations and vaccinations available if abnormal findings occur
Jeonnam National University Hospital (Director Ahn Young-geun) announced on the 15th that it will provide free health checkups for immigrants residing in the Gwangju area.
The Public Health Medical Project Office of Jeonnam National University Hospital, the Gwangju Public Health Medical Support Group and the Gwangju Infectious Disease Management Support Group, which are commissioned by Jeonnam National University Hospital, and the Jeonnam National University Global Diaspora Research Institute will conduct the program every Sunday until November 5 at the Immigrant Health Center in Usan-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, and the Foreign Workers Support Center in Heukseok-dong, targeting 350 immigrants including foreign workers residing in Gwangju.
The Gwangju Immigrant Health Center held the event on August 15, and the Gwangju Foreign Workers Support Center will hold it on the 22nd and 29th of this month and November 5.
The examinations include ▲basic tests (height, weight, blood pressure) ▲blood tests (diabetes, hyperlipidemia, liver function, etc.) ▲urinalysis ▲X-ray ▲survey (health behavior, chronic disease status, unmet medical needs), as well as infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, measles, chickenpox, hepatitis B and C.
The free health checkup event will provide interpreters to assist immigrants who are not fluent in Korean during the examination. Afterwards, health checkup results and disease-specific information will be delivered, and if any abnormalities are found, additional consultations or vaccinations will be provided.
Kwon Soon-seok, head of the Gwangju Public Health Medical Support Group, said, “The proportion of immigrants in Gwangju is increasing, and while the length of stay and settlement of immigrants are becoming longer, medical accessibility remains vulnerable. Therefore, there is a lack of a system to identify and manage the health status of immigrants at the community level.” He added, “Through this health checkup, we aim to assess the health status of immigrants residing in Gwangju and strive to form a social consensus on strengthening immigrant health rights through continuous research to establish an immigrant health support system, as well as to provide suggestions for long-term policy development.”
