Learning 'Dating' on YouTube: Helpful? Women Say "Helpful," Men Say "Not Really"

Half of 2030 Singles Say "It Helps with Dating"
Responses Vary by Gender and Age Group

About half of young unmarried men and women believe that dating YouTube content helps with dating, according to a survey. However, there were differences in perspectives based on gender and age group.


On the 14th, marriage information company Duo released the results of a survey on 'YouTube and Dating' conducted among unmarried men and women in their 20s and 30s. According to the survey, 46.3% of unmarried men and women answered that 'dating YouTube content helps with dating.' However, responses varied somewhat by gender and age group.

More than half of women, 51.3%, said that 'dating YouTube content is helpful.' In contrast, 59.7% of men responded that it 'is not helpful.' Additionally, 50.7% of people in their 20s said it 'is helpful,' while 57.3% of those in their 30s said it 'is not helpful.'


When asked if they had experience watching dating-related YouTube content, 79.3% of women and 68.0% of men answered 'yes.' Among age groups, 82.4% of people in their 20s and 66.5% of those in their 30s reported watching such content, indicating that younger age groups tend to watch it more.


The top reason for watching dating-related content was 'because it is entertaining,' at 57.5%, overwhelmingly ranking first. This was followed by 'to refer to dating' (12.7%), 'curiosity about others’ dating' (11.8%), and 'to resolve dating questions' (8.1%). Also, the most important element of dating YouTube content was 'realism,' chosen by 45% of respondents.


The dating YouTube content considered most helpful by unmarried men and women was 'analysis of male and female psychology,' at 30.7%, followed by 'date course recommendations' at 29.3%. Other types included 'real dating stories' (13.0%), 'dating counseling' (11.0%), 'couple vlogs' (6.7%), 'dating tips' (5.7%), and 'dating web dramas' (1.7%).


Among these, 36.0% of men and 30.1% of people in their 20s selected 'date course recommendations' as the most helpful dating content, while 32.0% of women and 34.1% of people in their 30s chose 'analysis of male and female psychology.' This survey was conducted by the survey company Macromill Embrain from the 12th to the 14th of last month, targeting a total of 300 unmarried men and women aged 20 to 39. The confidence level is 95% with a standard error of ±5.66 percentage points.
