On September 27, Jeollanam-do Gurye-gun announced that it had created a Taegukgi pinwheel garden at the Memorial Park to honor Park Kyung-hyun (朴敬鉉), a local independence activist.

About 200 students from local children's centers learned about the independence movement led by Park Kyung-hyun, an independence activist from Gurye-gun, and inspired by his movement, they made pinwheels decorated with the Taegukgi.

The students planted 280 pinwheels they made themselves in the Memorial Park, creating a Taegukgi pinwheel garden for the bereaved families and residents using the park to see.

A county official said, "Through the participation and activities of the students, we hope that the honored independence figure from Gurye will be spotlighted and that the local national spirit and patriotism will be passed down."

The late Park Kyung-hyun (朴敬鉉) was a scholar from Jicheon-ri, Gwangui-myeon, Gurye-gun, who led the Gurye-gun independence movement on March 23, 1919.

He discussed protest plans with Park Hae-woon (朴海運), Hwang Wi-hyun (黃渭顯), and others from the same village, prepared the Taegukgi, and shouted "Long live Korean independence" at the Gurye-eup marketplace on market day.

The government recognized his contributions by awarding him a Presidential Citation in 1993.
