Unlike last year’s scaled-down event due to COVID-19, this year’s event was held outdoors on a large scale, offering various pre-ceremony performances such as Janggu Nanta and Silver Dance, as well as abundant food, bringing great joy to the elderly attendees.
Following the pre-ceremony performances, the commemorative ceremony proceeded with the national anthem, reading of the senior citizens’ pledge, and awarding of commendations. Among the awardees were 29 individuals including Song Young-soon from Sunchang-eup, who received various awards such as the County Governor’s Award, the Chairman’s Award, and the Senior Citizens Association Branch President’s Award.
Notably, on this day, the Korea Senior Citizens Association Sunchang-gun Branch presented plaques of appreciation directly to Choi Young-il, the head of Sunchang-gun, and Shin Jeong-i, the chairman of the Sunchang County Council, for implementing senior welfare policies that tangibly improved the lives of the elderly, drawing attention.
After lunch, the “Town and Township Skills Contest” was held, where 82 elderly participants from 9 towns and townships showcased their talents in Nongak (traditional farmers’ music), silver gymnastics, singing, and more, providing a joyful time for both participants and spectators.
At the commemorative ceremony, Kim Yong-sik, the branch president, said, “I would like to express my gratitude to all senior members who participated in the 27th Senior Citizens' Day. Since today’s event is for the senior members, I hope everyone enjoys it to the fullest.”
In his congratulatory speech, County Head Choi said, “The peace and prosperity we enjoy today stem from the noble sacrifices of our elders. The most important thing to create a happy Sunchang for all residents is the happiness of our seniors, so we will continue to do our best to promote warm welfare policies, one of the five major county administration goals.”
