Prosecutors Conduct Search and Seizure on Former Election Commission Secretary-General over Alleged Hiring Corruption Involving Children

Prosecutors investigating allegations of recruitment corruption at the Election Commission conducted additional raids on the 12th.

The Public Investigation Division 1 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Jong-hyun) sent prosecutors and investigators to about 10 locations, including the residences of former Election Commission Secretary-General Park Chan-jin and former Deputy Secretary Song Bong-seop, from the morning to secure related materials. The Chungbuk Election Commission and Jeonnam Election Commission were also included in this raid.

It appears that the prosecutors, who conducted raids on the offices of five Election Commissions including the central, Seoul, Daejeon, Jeonnam, and Chungbuk offices on the 22nd of last month regarding the recruitment corruption allegations, have additionally moved to secure materials on this day. The Election Commission announced in May that a special audit related to the recruitment of executives' children found "circumstances where it is difficult to exclude the possibility of undue influence" in the career recruitment process of four children, including former Secretary-General Park and former Deputy Secretary Song.
