Korean Women Journalists Association Hosts 'Communication, Understanding, Cooperation... Korea-Japan Women Journalists Forum'

The Korean Women Journalists Association will hold the Korea-Japan Women Journalists Forum themed "Communication, Understanding, Cooperation" on the 13th at the International Conference Hall on the 20th floor of the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul. This event is organized to share concerns about gender discrimination experienced by women journalists from both Korea and Japan in the field and to seek solutions for creating a better world.

The forum will be conducted in three sessions: "The 10% Barrier... Beyond the Glass Ceiling," "The Low Birthrate Quagmire... Is There a Breakthrough?," and "The Impact of Asian Culture on Women-Related Reporting." It will examine the current status of Korea and Japan, both ranked among the lowest globally in gender equality indices, explore the causes and alternatives to the common challenge of low birthrates in both countries, and review the influence of Asian history and customs on gender issue reporting.

From the Japanese side, presenters and discussants include Yuka Mizoue, reporter for TV Asahi; Yukari Honmo, correspondent at Jiji Press Seoul bureau; Sayuri Kato, reporter for Kansai TV Japan; Risa Akiyama, editor-in-chief of Kanagawa Shimbun; and Sawa Okabayashi, reporter for Asahi Shimbun Japan.

Kim Kyung-hee, president of the Korean Women Journalists Association, stated, "Ignoring gender equality, diversity, and inclusiveness makes it impossible to overcome national crises such as social integration or 'low birthrate.'" She added, "We expect that in this forum, Korean and Japanese women journalists will insightfully analyze the realities and policies of gender equality in both countries based on years of reporting experience and lead to effective policy recommendations."
