Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is taking steps to raise residents' sensitivity to human rights in their daily lives and to spread a culture of respect for human rights in the local community.
According to Buk-gu on the 11th, the "10th Resident Human Rights School" will be held for local residents at the auditorium on the 2nd floor of the Buk-gu Lifelong Learning Center from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays during the period from the 19th to the 27th.
The Resident Human Rights School is a human rights policy operated by Buk-gu since 2014 to cultivate village human rights activists who seek and practice correct understanding of human rights and solutions to human rights issues by type, such as women, the elderly, and the disabled, through human rights education tailored to residents' perspectives and discussions among participants.
This human rights school is open to any Buk-gu resident interested in human rights, and four human rights lectures will be offered free of charge on the topics of ▲There Are People Here ▲Climate Crisis and Human Rights, and Climate Justice ▲Village Community and Gender Sensitivity ▲All Things Fading Away in the Climate Crisis.
In addition, on the 31st, there will be a time to reflect on the meaning and value of democracy, human rights, and peace through human rights field experience activities such as a tour of the Kim Dae-jung Nobel Peace Prize Memorial Hall and the Mokpo Modern History Museum with graduates of the human rights school.
The number of participants is limited to 45, and applications are being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the 16th. Residents who wish to participate can apply via email or phone to the Human Rights Education Division of Buk-gu Office.
A Buk-gu official said, "It is a meaningful moment as the Resident Human Rights School of Buk-gu, a symbol of democracy, human rights, and peace, marks its 10th session," adding, "Human rights begin with understanding differences between myself and others and guaranteeing the rights of others in daily life. We will do our best to create a human rights-respecting local community where all residents enjoy equal rights in their daily lives."
