KCC Recommends Lee Dong-wook as KBS By-election Director for 5.18 Investigation Committee

The Korea Communications Commission held a plenary meeting on the 11th and resolved to recommend Lee Dong-wook, a member of the 5.18 Democratization Movement Truth Investigation Committee, as a replacement director of the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS).


KBS directors are appointed by the president following the recommendation of the Korea Communications Commission. The term lasts until August 31 of next year.

Earlier, on the 5th, the Korea Communications Commission accepted the resignation of former director Kim Jong-min, a ruling party figure who had expressed his intention to resign. The recommended successor, Director Lee, is also a ruling party figure, and once appointed by the president, the KBS board will again have a 6 to 5 majority in favor of the ruling and opposition parties.


The ruling party directors at KBS are expected to hold a board meeting on the 13th to vote on selecting a candidate for president.
